Churches

Cheney Congregational Church

Greetings from Cheney Congregational. You’re invited to join us for our “Church in the Park” events on Aug. 29 and Sept. 19. Partnering with two other churches, we are holding our Sunday morning services outside in Sutton Park at 9:30 a.m. on those Sundays. We hope you’ll join us to learn about God’s creation while physically being in it. We hope to see you there!

Also, we welcome you to join us on Sunday mornings for in-person worship at 10 a.m. and fellowship time afterwards. Masks are required.

This fall we will have two new sermon series titled, “Why Church?” and “Hope in the Midst of Despair.” The first series will look at why we gather as a church and how we are called to exist for the sake service to the larger Cheney Community. The second series will explore mental illness, looking particularly at depression, anxiety, and “un-reality” (dementia and psychosis).

This series will seek to destigmatize mental illness and offer a theology of hope for those who find themselves stuck in its isolating and vicious grip. Statistics show that one in four adults will experience some form of mental illness in their lifetime, so mental illness is a topic we cannot avoid discussing.

Kids have their own “Discovery Team Time” during our services.  If you’d like to learn more or contact us, visit our website, http://www.cheneycongregational.org.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church

All are welcome to worship with us this Sunday Aug. 29 at Sutton Park beginning at 9:30 a.m. This will be the last multi-church summer service for this year. Questions regarding the service may be directed to: http://www.emmanuelcheney.org or pastor Matt Goodale at [email protected]. Visitors are expected.

All are welcome to visit the Free Community Pantry and Little Free Library located at 639 Elm Street. Donations of books, non-perishable food, and personal care items for all ages are always accepted. All items are “take what you need, leave what you can.” Both are open to the community 24/7. Emmanuel thanks you for your continued support of this outreach ministry to our neighbors.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

A welcoming haven, nourishing all God’s people in body, mind and spirit. Rev. Kathryn Lamphere will preside and preach at our Sunday morning service 11 a.m.

Please note we are following CDC guidelines concerning wearing masks when gathered inside as a group. Masks must be worn during the service. Masks will be provided as necessary.

On Sunday, Aug. 29 we will be participating with Emmanuel Lutheran and Cheney Congregational churches to hold “Church in the Park” at Sutton Park, 9:30 a.m. Each person needs to bring a chair and is invited to bring a snack to share. Cold water will be furnished.

For your contemplation: “Those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.” John 4:14
