Charles "Charlie" M Hansen

Charles "Charlie" M Hansen

1933 – 2021

Charles "Charlie" M Hansen, 88, passed away peacefully on Feb. 28, 2021 surrounded by his family. Charlie was born on Jan. 12, 1933 to Carl and Alice Hansen in New York.

While growing up during the great depression Charlie learned the value of hard work and providing for loved ones by observing Carl's example as he worked for the New York's subway system for over 25 years. These values became Charlies' defining qualities throughout his life.

Charlie enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and was stationed in various bases in Minneapolis, Minn., Fairbanks Alaska, Topeka, Kan., Minot N.D., and finally Spokane, Wash. Later he settled his family in Cheney, Wash. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service as a senior master sergeant.

After retiring from the military, Charlie was employed at Eastern Washington University in Cheney as an HVAC technician. He retired in 1993 after 22 years of employment and then enjoyed his retirement for the next 27 years of his life.

Charlie met the love of his life in 1953 and was married on May 15, 1954 to Carole L Coen. For the next 62 years, Charlie and Carole never left each other's side and he believed in not missing one day without a kiss from his wife. Carole bore six children to Charlie: Kathleen Yohannan, Rita Soller, Charles L Hansen, Robert Hansen, Mary Moore and Theresa Hansen. Eventually they would see 11 grandchildren (Casey, Chaz, Tammy, Elijah, Seth, Aurora, Charles Andrew, Zachary, Chris, Joshua, and Kharissa) 28 great-grandchildren, (Shane, Sierra, Ethan, Austin, Garrett, Allex, Ethan, Kiairah, Blyth, Lane-Lee, Zayden, Alyeska, Bethia, Nathaniel, Makayla, Ava, Corin, Eloise, Wyatt, Preston, Kolten, Brayden, Mason, Eli, Perseues, Trinity, Aubrey, Liam) and two great-great-grandchildren (Jaxton, and Wolf).

He enjoyed many things in life including hunting, fishing, gardening, making breakfast, mowing his lawn, watching football (preferably the Seattle Seahawks) but mostly he enjoyed seeing all his family happy and healthy.

His close friends and family knew him for his sincere advice in life and his invaluable stories and lessons that his family cherished. He always encouraged giving the best you can give, he taught that a job needed to be a priority and deserved nothing less than 110%. He was admired for his details in life. He could recount memories and experiences to the finest detail where every time you were left knowing which way the wind blew, what was the temperature, how cold the morning was, what clothes he had on and so on.

Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Carole Hansen, his daughter Theresa, and his grandchildren, Chaz and Joshua. He was survived by his wife Alma Hansen of two years.

His memorial mass will be held at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 11 a.m. Grave side services will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m.
