Linda Pearson named Senior Citizen Volunteer of the Year

MEDICAL LAKE – Linda Pearson has been named the Kiwanis Club's 2020 Senior Citizen Volunteer of the Year. Pearson was nominated by fellow resident Jean Auerbach and honored at the Kiwanis Club's annual Valentine's Dinner on Feb. 13, held in drive-up dinner style this year due to COVID-19 safety and health protocols.

Pearson received her award prior to the Saturday luncheon on the back patio of the Fischin' Hole in downtown Medical Lake.

Pearson is active in the Greek Orthodox Church and works with Shalom Ministries. According to its website, Shalom Ministries began in 1992 as a nationwide effort within the United Methodist Church to create effective ministries in urban settings. In 1994, a separate 501 (c) 3 was created in Spokane to bring together religious, business, political and social service communities to find solutions to poverty and homelessness.

Pearson also provides traffic control at the Medical Lake Food Bank and has worked with SCOPE (Sheriff's Community Oriented Policing Effort) at several local events. She can be found twice a week at Care N' Share where she cashiers and researches pricing.

During COVID, Pearson has helped check people in for the local hospice. She is currently studying to be a clinical musician and hopes to someday play for hospice patients.

Besides the Kiwanis Club and staff at the Fischin' Hole, local Key Club members also assisted with providing this year's dinner.
