CHENEY —Spokane County Fire District 3 has been awarded a $2.06 million Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response, or SAFER, grant, according to a press release.
The district will use the grant to fund the cost of 11 new firefighters during a three-year period to cover “the rapidly increasing number of emergency calls,” according to the release.
Of the 11, eight will be full-time line firefighting positions. The remaining three will likely be additional chief-level positions within the department, according to Division Chief Dustin Flock.
