The board of directors of the Medical Lake Food Bank Association hosted an appreciation dinner for the volunteers of the Medical Lake Food Bank and Medical Lake Care and Share on July 10 during the general membership meeting.
These volunteers work diligently on behalf of the citizens of Medical Lake to provide food for those in need. All proceeds from the Medical Lake Care and Share go to the Food Bank.
Jan Bailey, president of the Medical Lake Food Bank thanked the volunteers for the many hours they put in each week either collecting, sorting, stocking and selling items at the Care and Share or receiving, sorting, stocking and bagging food for the weekly/monthly food bank distributions.
Volunteers discussed the slowing of cash donations and sales at the Care and Share and noted that many citizens do not realize that the Food Bank Association purchases most of the food that is provided to families, friends and neighbors and that only a small portion of the availablefood items are donated by 2nd Harvest, the regional food bank.
The Food Bank board and volunteers thank the community for the donations that are received and for shopping at the Care and Share. Anyone interested in volunteering at the Food Bank or Care and Share are asked to stop by the Care and Share Monday, Wednesday or Saturday or the Food Bank on Friday mornings before 10 a.m.
