Century West Engineering corporation and Spokane Geo-Engineers officials presented a new design and landscape plans for a proposed water reclamation plant to be located in the city of Airway Heights.

A new ordinance from Medical Lakesought to conserve the city's water supply by limiting summer irrigation. A first violation would be a written warning. The second offense is a civil infraction with a fine of up to $250. The third offense counted as a misdemeanor and would mean up to 90 days in jail or a $1,000 fine.

Cheney named Arlene Fisher of Liberty Lake as the new City Administrator.

Nov. 27, 1997

Medical Lake police officers Sgt. Jim Sjothun and Marty Lawrence were honored by the Washington State Traffic Commission.

The Tom Oswald era at Cheney High School-which saw the Blackhawks become a perennial power in the Frontier League football league-came to a close. The veteran coach, who played for the Blackhawks and then returned to his alma mater to coach for 20 seasons, announced his retirement.

After going 10-1 on the season and capturing the Big Sky Conference football championship, the Eagles earned a No. 3 seed nationally in the NCAA Division I-AA Playoffs.

Nov. 26, 1987

Al Ogdon was sworn in as the new mayor for the city of Cheney, moving up a notch from his position on City Council.

Volunteers and the Airway Heights Lions Club developed a food bank for the community.

The Cheney Blackhawk volleyball team returned home with a state title. The Cheney girls claimed their school's first-ever state volleyball championship by defeating Hanford High School 19-17 and 15-11.

Nov. 24, 1977

Cheney School District will work without a contract rather than submit to a two-year agreement recommended by a state Public Employees Relations Commission report.

A total of 34 new homes, and 80 more following the first installment of over 150 new homes were expected to be developed and annexed preliminary plats on North Salnave via road in Cheney that would eventually extend to Presley Drive to near the Fairview Cemetery.

Six state AA veterans of Cheney's 1976-77 third-place wrestling team returned to form a solid core for the Blackhawks mat team.

Nov. 23, 1967

The Owl Pharmacy opened its doors in a new 4,700 square foot building at Second and F street. The vacated Owl building on Main Street would house Cheney's library when remodeling was completed.

Micky Moriarty from Medical Lake was named president of the Washington State Pony of America Club.
