The Cheney parks board was considering updating the park rules, which were seven years old, in a resolution proposing earlier closing times and tobacco free parks in the city.

Airway Heights City Council turned down a $143,856 bid for a Highway 2 landscape project with plans to re-bid sometime in the later fall or early spring.

Members of Medical Lake Boy Scout Troop 307 started a food drive for the city's needy pets through a food bank. They collected donations for pets of all species – except for crickets.

Sept. 18, 1997

The results were in from the primary election and the city would officially have to choose between Amy Jo Sooy and Tom Trulove for mayor in November.

Cheney High School's Nathan Gosse had earned a semifinalist status in the National Merit Scholarship competition. The nationwide competition tabbed the top scholars for special recognition.

Medical Lake was well represented during the Mid-Valley Tennis Tournament held in Omak as four ML boys competed in the "junior" division.

Sept. 17, 1987

The actions of an observant police officer led to the arrest of two juveniles in the early-morning hours as that officer halted the rash of burglaries at the Cheney Liquor Store.

The students of the Medical Lake High School Chapter of Future Famers of America took first place and grand champion with their FFA booth at the Spokane Fair.

In front of 1,326 fans in a sunny Joe Albi Stadium, the Eastern Eagles opened their first season as a full-fledged member of the Big Sky Conference. EWU managed to defeated visiting Augustana 14-10.

Sept. 15, 1977

Cheney police solved three burglaries for the price of two when they arrested two 14-year-old boys from the Salnave area in connection with thefts from a pair of Gregory Drive and Gregory Place residents.

The students at Betz Elementary School tested out the new playground equipment at the school.

From the booths just inside the main gate to the barnyard by the grandstand, Cheney and Medical Lake were well represented at the 26th annual Spokane Interstate Fair.

Sept. 14, 1967

The Cheney Light Department purchased the Cheney Motel and the building was torn down as soon as all the movable property was auctioned off.

Pink eye was spreading among herds in Spokane County.

The Cheney Blackhawks defeated the University Titans 13-7, making it Cheney's 10th straight win.
