Yoga classes are being offered around Cheney

Cindy Bourgoin, personal trainer since 1998 and a citizen of Cheney since 1979, is now leaving a permanent footprint in the community. She started teaching yoga for the community in the fall of 2016.

She has two sessions open to residents, one taking place at the Mason Jar at 8 a.m. on Saturdays and another session at Redefine Fitness on Wednesdays from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

“I want to do more and more,” Bourgoin said. “I would love to help more in the community and stay local.”

The cost is minimal to attend any session, as it is a $10 drop-in rate. People can also pre-pay for the sessions in advance. The only requirement she has for the class is students bring their own yoga mat.

Bourgoin, owner of Ageless Health Prosperity, runs a unique yoga program. At Redefine Fitness, she uses a more therapeutic approach emphasizing different joints each month.

This April the focus was neck, shoulders and upper back.  In May, it will be knees and ankles. At the Mason Jar, the focus is on different themes. Currently, she is exploring a slow flow Sun Salutation theme called, “Here’s to the Sun.”

“The practice is amore alignment specific and gentle,” Bourgoin said. “People get images of fancy head stands, that’s totally not my approach. It’s about learning alignment of the body, balancing muscles around the bones and centering inward in a relaxed way. I want my yoga classes to be inviting, not feared.”

One of Bourgoin’s favorite aspects about teaching at the Mason Jar is how peaceful it is. She will play nice and soft music as she is teaching.

With the class being early in the morning, participants can watch the sun come through the windows as well. The group will finish their session right before opening and enjoy coffee with each other afterwards.

“Come to yoga and stay for coffee,” Bourgoin added.
