Loss of stage lights creates true live theater for StageWest performance

StageWest Community Theatre had an interesting weekend of performances.

First, the group’s current production of “The Charitable Sisterhood of the Second Trinity Victory Church” competed with Eastern Washington University’s Homecoming weekend, so consequently, Friday and Saturday night audiences were a little slim.

On Sunday the audience got to see live theater in complete action as the stage lights went out during the first act and the cast and crew improvised to finish the act. Technicians could not fix the problem during intermission, so again the cast improvised and went on with the second half.

According to StageWest’s publicity director, Nancy Kuonen, the audience was “very supportive and remarks made at the end of the play were encouraging.”

There are only two performances left for the play, this Friday night, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. and Saturday’s special dinner theatre at 6 p.m. The dinner is catered by Mike Hartman and by reservations only, with reservations needing to be made by Oct. 14.

Tickets Friday night are adults $12, seniors $10 and students with valid school ID $5. Dinner theatre is $30 per person. For reservations contact Kuonen at (509) 768-4792 and for more information contact Tom Crick at (509) 280-6318.

StageWest is holding open auditions for their December Readers Theatre production of “The Littlest Angel” from the book by Charles Tazewell and O’Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi” both adapted and directed by Judy Gross. Male and female actors and singers of any/all ages are needed, as well as a pianist.

Auditions will be held Friday, Oct. 21, at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday Oct., 22 at 10 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 639 Elm St. Rehearsals begin in November and the performances are the first two weekends of December. For more information contact Gross at (509) 299-2649.
