Eastern Washington Gateway Railroad conductor/signal maintenance engineer Lee Patten hangs on to the crossing-gate arm to prevent it from dropping and blocking northbound traffic on State Route 904 near Betz Road Monday morning. A burned out motor prevented the arm from raising, forcing Patten to keep it in the upright position until a fellow crewmember returned with a replacement motor.
