‘Boys in the Boat’ Cheney book club March selection

“The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and their epic quest for gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics” is the March selection of the Book Discussion Group of the Friends of the Cheney Community Library. The group meets Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m. at the library.

“The Boys in the Boat” tells the inspiring true story of young working-class men from the Northwest who trained at the University of Washington under a legendary coach. They triumphed over teams from elite colleges to compete in the Olympic games in Hitler’s Germany.

Telegraph talk at Cheney library Saturday, March 19

Tom Davis will speak this Saturday on his experiences working as a telegrapher for the Northern Pacific Railway, including at the Cheney Depot, during the 1950s. The presentation will take place at the Cheney Public Library at 2 p.m. 

Davis will also be demonstrating the use of a working antique telegraph. The talk is free and is being sponsored by the Cheney Depot Society, a certified 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit charitable organization formed to save the Cheney Depot from demolition.
