Cheney book club Feb. 23

How do two women, age 75 and 80, survive in the Alaska wilderness after their tribe abandons them?

“Two Old Women” tells their story and is the February selection of the Book Discussion Group of the Friends of the Cheney Community Library. The group meets on Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. at the library.

In her novel, author Velma Wallis recounts a story told by her mother from their Athabaskan heritage. Full of adventure and suspense, “Two Old Women” is an amazing tale of obstacles overcome.

EWU archivist to discuss depot efforts Feb. 27

Dr. Charles Mutschler, archivist for Eastern Washington University, is scheduled to give a talk at the Cheney Library at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27. He will provide information on the history of the Cheney Depot and the current efforts of the Cheney Depot Society to relocate, restore and repurpose the station. The public is invited to attend this presentation in the public resource room at the library.

There is also a Save Our Station display to view at the library that will remain in place until the end of February. Please come and learn about the depot and ways you can aid in its restoration.
