JustServe.org provides local volunteer opportunities

As Lewis Carroll once said: "One of the secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others."

While opportunities abound to serve in the community, it's difficult to identify those opportunities. JustServe.org provides a way to easily find and connect needs with resources.

Registration is simple and free. Through JustServe.org, volunteers can access service opportunities and events in their neighborhood, town or city. Once registered, they can browse service opportunities and email updates will deliver new local service opportunities to your inbox.

"The most important concept that I have learned is that there are so many people in our community that care about humanity," Maureen Moberly, Cheney representative of the JustServe organization, said in a news release. "The volunteers come from all walks of life, and from many different religions, but share one goal: to care and give to those in need."

Moblerly and her husband Gill have had many opportunities to serve. One experience that touched their lives greatly was participating in the "Journey to Bethlehem" (JTB), a service to the Cheney community organized by The Seventh Day Adventist Church.

In JTB, volunteers set up a live nativity for anyone to attend and be touched by the story of the birth of Jesus Christ. Many volunteers are needed each year to wrangle the live animals, set the stage and lighting, and perform to make this event a success.

Many in the community have already experienced the joy of serving through opportunities found on JustServe.org. Volunteers using JustServe recently helped by sorting donated food for Feed Cheney and 2nd Harvest food banks, sorting clothing for Cleone's Closet, which supports women in need in Airway Heights, painting and helping build local churches and serving food at EWU's "Welcome Back Breakfast" for faculty and students.

It's easy to register on JustServe.org and to find service opportunities in local neighborhoods that support worthy causes; it's equally easy for worthy causes to seek local volunteers through JustServe. The common consensus of participants is that everyone felt uplifted and strengthened by the act of giving. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "The greatest gift is a portion of thyself."
