Cheney book club Oct. 27

“Station Eleven” is the October selection of the Book Discussion Group of the Friends of the Cheney Community Library. The group meets Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. at the library.

In the book, author Emily St. John Mandel imagines the world after a flu-like epidemic has killed almost everyone. The novel begins in Toronto after a performance of King Lear with a young girl in a minor part.

Twenty years later, the girl, Kirsten, travels with a group performing plays to devastated towns around the Great Lakes. Her story and of other survivors are woven into a compelling novel with elements of hope and humor amid the vivid descriptions of desperation and violence.
