Former West Plains Chamber president Ed Neunherz passes away at age 70

The West Plains Chamber of Commerce will need to find another presenter for its famous "Let's Make a Deal's" rubber chicken.

Long-time chamber member and past board president Ed Neunherz passed away at his Veradale, Wash. home Jan. 27. According to information from his family, Neunherz had been hospitalized for over a month dealing with "monumental health issues" but had been released on Jan. 23.

Born in Columbus, Ohio Dec. 4, 1944, he received a bachelor of arts from the University of Arkansas, a master's of science in engineering from Wayne State University and a master's of business administration from Gonzaga University. Neunherz served in the U.S. Air Force for 27 years, retiring in 1993 as a lieutenant colonel.

He served as a weapons safety officer and as a public affairs officer, handling a number of incidents including hostage returns from Lebanon in the 1980s, receiving numerous medals and awards. After retiring, he was asked by the Air Force to handle public relations on the B-52 crash at Fairchild Air Force Base in 1994.
