The Medical Lake Police Department was scheduled to begin participation in a high-tech information sharing program known as Coplink which allows members to share law enforcement data from across many sources.

Cheney’s 61-59 boys’ basketball victory over West Valley knocked the league-leading Eagles from the ranks of the undefeated in the Greater Spokane League. Derek Miller scored 29 points in the game for the Blackhawks.

While parts of the country were digging out from under snow, a mild winter locally saw golfers flock to The Fairways Golf Course in West Terrace.

A rare case of tuberculosis was reported at Eastern Washington University, but chances of it spreading were determined to be rare, school officials said.

With the completion of phase I of EWU’s Woodward Stadium upgrade, including improvements to lighting and the track, discussion was now taking place on the addition of 5,000 permanent seats on the east side of the facility. The project would include a building with 40,000 square feet of space for a variety of uses.

Jan. 24, 1985

More than 140 Cheney residents who received $30 parking tickets for leaving their vehicles in the street during snowplowing operations were likely going to have those fines reduced to $10 in Municipal Court.

Spokane banking official Rick Odegard planned to speak to interested residents on the process other Northwest cities had gone through in their downtown revitalization efforts. Cheney was contemplating such a project.

Pam Parks, an EWU graduate and current assistant coach at Montana State, was named as the Eagles’ new volleyball coach.

Jan. 23, 1975

The dispute between the City of Cheney and its former fire chief, Maynerd Haskins over his retirement was settled following meetings between the respective attorneys for each, Jeff Morris for Haskins and the city’s Merritt Johnson. The deal headed off a potential Civil Service Commission hearing.

Winter quarter enrollment at Eastern Washington State College reached a new record of 6,748 students surpassing the previous high of 6,465 in 1973.

Medical Lake’s Charlie Yankus scored 23 points, and Marvin Stewart added 19 more to lead the Cardinals past Pullman 68-47 in a Frontier League boy’s basketball game in Medical Lake. Yankus’ effort earned him the Spokane Sportswriters and Broadcasters’ athlete of the week award.

Jan. 22, 1965

The new Cheney junior high school will be named in honor of longtime principal, teacher, coach and athletic administrator George Fisher following a unanimous vote of the district’s school board.

The Medical Lake edition of the annual Mothers’ March for the March of Dimes collected $327 according to chairman Zelma Heyer.

The EWSC swim team was set to hit the road for a meet in Billings against Eastern Montana College of Education and Northern Montana State College.
