Cheney Free Press staff receives awards for writing, graphic design

Several Cheney Free Press staff members were award winners in the recent Washington Newspaper Publisher Association’s annual Better Newspaper Contest.

In the News Division, staff reporter Paul Delaney earned a second-place award in the Best Sports Personality Profile, Group I and II Combined category for “Ron Cox’s Eastern career marks stand test of time.” Delaney also received a third-place award in the Best Sports News Story, Group II for “Crazy rally delivers Big Sky’s top spot.” Editor John McCallum earned a second-place award in the Best Health and Medical Story, Group I and II Combined for “Teaming up for healthier lifestyles.”

In the advertising and graphics divisions, graphic designer Karen Robinette won a second place award in the Use of Process Color Half-page or Larger, Group I – IV Combined for a Cheney Federal Credit Union advertisement and second-place in the Best Special Section Cover Group I and II Combined for the Outdoors 2013 special section.

Awards were given in October at the WNPA’s Better Newspaper Contests annual conference and banquet, held this year in Chelan.
