Sept. 30, 2004

Vandals slashed the tires of 16 Medical Lake police cars, leaving the city without a workable patrol vehicle.

Eastern Washington University announced the introduction of a new degree offering in electrical engineering beginning in 2005.

Cheney volleyball rallied to win the final three sets to earn its first Greater Spokane League victory of the season 3-1 over Clarkston. Meghan Cogley led Cheney with 15 kills while Cami Jones had 13 digs.

Sept. 29, 1994

An event called "Bull Mania" visited the Cheney Rodeo Grounds and featured men versus animals seeing who could hang on longest.

Three teenage boys were recently sentenced for their role in damage caused to the Fairview Cemetery where they tipped over and broke grave markers.

A safety, caused when the center snap on a punt sailed over the head of the kicker, proved to be the difference for Medical Lake, who scored a 9-7 football win over Deer Park. Dan Croxall scored the lone Cardinal touchdown.

Sept. 29, 1984

Bonneville Power Administration announced it would raise rates for wholesale electrical power by 10 percent to customers such as the city of Cheney. The figure was met with skepticism from the Light Department's Tom Richardson who thought the number was low.

Local chef and civic booster Tony Carpine was preparing to feed an estimated 1,200 people his famous spaghetti dinner as a means of raising funds to support the community float.

Former Cheney High standout, 1981 grad and defensive captain Dick Crabb will lead his Puget Sound Loggers team against older brother Bob who was the linebackers' coach at Whitworth College.

Oct. 3, 1974

Providing the city could find $65,000 from its budget, First Street in Cheney was about to get a makeover.

A wildfire east of Four Lakes that started near the intersection of Melville and Flint Roads, burned timber, brush and injured a Spokane County Fire District 3 firefighter, Russell Mace Jr.

Eastern Washington was coming off a 32-14 loss to Whitworth College in the 46th annual Shrine Game at Albi Stadium in Spokane and preparing to face Oregon College of Education in its Evergreen Conference football opener at Monmouth, Ore.

Oct. 2, 1964

A burglar entered Edget Brothers Hardware Store through a window at the rear of the store and stole an estimated $2,500 in hunting licenses, postage stamps and cash.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Evans was scheduled to make an appearance in Cheney as he toured the state on a campaign bus.

The Eastern Washington State College Savages were preparing to host the undefeated, 7-0, Western Washington Vikings at Woodward Field. Eastern was seeking its first win against Western since 1959.
