Mary Lee Adamson

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Lee Adamson, age 81 On Dec. 8, 2013 in Redmond, Wash.

Mary was born in Sprague, Wash. on Nov. 25, 1932, to Mary Iva (Billie) and Ernest (Babe) Melville.  She is survived by her daughters, Dianna (Larry) Kadeg, Redmond, Wash; Sharon (Wayne) Logan, Redding, Calif; son, Brian Adamson, Seattle, Wash; sister-in-law Anne Schmidt, Cerratos, Calif; sisters Amy Jo Sooy-Tollefson, Spokane; Erna Jean Bauer, Cheney; brother, Richard (Diane) Melville, Cheney; nine granddaughters and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Adamson, April 29, 2013.  

Mary Lee was raised on a wheat farm in the Lamont/Sprague area.  Her family moved to Cheney in 1945 and she was a graduate of Cheney High School, class of 1950.

She married Larry Adamson in 1951. Mary Lee worked for Jensen-Byrd Co. for four years until Larry’s discharge from the US Air Force in 1954. They bought their first grocery store in Lamont, Wash., and lived there until they moved to Happy Camp, Calif. to own and operate Larry’s Market. In both stores Mary Lee did the accounting and much of the employee relations.  

Following retirement, they moved to Reno, Nev., where they lived until Larry’s recent death April 29, 2013.  Mary Lee and Larry enjoyed many years of travel visiting family and friends. Mary Lee enjoyed playing solitaire, word puzzles, and was especially known for her skill at card games. She moved to Overlake Terrace Assisted Living in Redmond at the death of her husband and resided there until her passing.  

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Cheney United Methodist Church, Fourth and G streets. Viewing will be held at the Cheney Funeral Chapel, Friday, Dec. 13, from 6-7 p.m. and again at the church from 12-12:45 Dec. 14.
