Cheney book club Oct. 22

A very funny novel “Where’d you go, Bernadette?” is the “Spokane is Reading” selection for 2013, and the October selection of the Book Discussion Group of the Friends of the Cheney Community Library. The group meets Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at the library. All are welcome to attend.

“Where’d you go, Bernadette?” is set in Seattle and Antarctica and is told by letters, memos, police reports, report cards and other documents. The chief correspondent is Bee Branch, a brilliant, physically handicapped girl. Seattle is the object of satire, including its weather, crazy drivers and Microsoft.

STCU blood drive next Friday

Cheney community blood drive volunteers led by Duane Isaac along with Inland Northwest Blood Center are coordinating a blood drive Friday, Oct. 25, at Spokane Teachers Credit Union’s Cheney branch. The drive hours are 1:30-5:30 p.m. at the branch located at 2718 First St.

INBC needs an average of 200 blood donors every day to meet the needs of more than 35 hospitals in the Inland Northwest. A single donation can save the lives of up to three people. Please give Oct. 25.

Turkey Trot registration opens

The Cheney High cross country team’s sixth annual Turkey Trot is taking place Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28 at 9 a.m. at the high school track. The two-mile walk or three-mile run is for runners and walkers of all ages.

The entry fee is $5, which if paid by Nov. 13 gets the participant a T-shirt. Participants also receive a ticket for a drawing to win a turkey and other prizes.
