When Bonnie Hanna bought the house at 416 G St. a year ago she may not have realized what also came with the property – maintaining a well-managed yard and garden. It’s something neighbor Charles Kenfield got her up to speed on, and in the process becoming the Gardeners of Cheney’s June selection for Yard of the Month.
“He’s the one who got me into this mess,” Hanna said with a laugh late Monday afternoon.
Kenfield explained that the home’s former owner had done a wonderful job in bringing the yard up to showcase style, and Hanna has taken it further. Hanna moved some old water troughs from the front yard where they contained ornamental grasses to the green, shaded backyard, using them as her vegetable garden in several cases.
Cheney Kiwanis representative George Abrams and garden club representatives Kenfield and Karen Smith presented Hanna with a $25 Jarms Hardware gift certificate and identified her residence with a sign to proclaim the Yard of the Month honor.
