Joseph E. Tiedt

Joseph E. Tiedt, age 87, passed away Aug. 17, 2012, in Spokane, Wash. Joseph was born in Cheney, Wash. on Feb. 8, 1925. He was the son of Elmer and Hattie (Wegele) Tiedt.

Joseph graduated from Cheney High School and went to work for the SPNS Railroad for one year; he then went to work as a grounds keeper at EWU and worked there for 31 years. He retired in 1978. In 1958 he met and married Betty Maxfield. They made their home in Spokane for 28 years. After their retirement, they traveled throughout the Western U.S., Canada and Hawaii. For the last 12 years, they made their home in Riverview Retirement Center.

Joseph is survived by one brother, Orval Tiedt of Cheney; three nephews Clifford Tiedt of Cheney, Brad Tiedt of Spokane, and David Tiedt of Sandi, Utah; and niece, Nancy Orwig of Sacramento, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Shirley Tiedt; and his wife, Betty, in 2009. Memorial services for Joseph Tiedt will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012, at 1 p.m., in the Riverview Chapel, 1841 E. Upriver Drive, Spokane. A private family graveside will be held at Spokane Memorial Gardens, Spokane. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe in charge of arrangements.
