Violet Jeanne (Chew) Dong

Violet Jeanne (Chew) Dong, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, left this earth life on April 15, 2011. She was born on March 24, 1917 in Red Bluff, Calif. to Chew Siu Lim and N.G. Shee (Canton, China).

She married Joseph Quong Dong in Reno, Nev. on Nov. 18, 1948 and has lived in Butte, Mont., Red Bluff, Calif., Ephrata, Wash., Cheney and finally in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. In addition to being a homemaker, Violet spent many years working for Lamb Weston in Quincy, Wash.

She loved to watch the old Turner Classic movies, shop for shoes, and in her final years, she thoroughly enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren. Violet also loved to cook for her family.

Violet was preceded in death by her loving husband and an older brother, Dick Chew. She is survived by her sister, Nettie Ong, of Phoenix, Ariz., her brother, Joe Chew, of Red Bluff, Calif., her children, Darryl (Anna) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jeffrey (Vivian) of Vancouver, Wash., Michael (Barbra) of Durango, Colo., April Lew of San Diego, Calif., and Stuart (Carma) of Pacific Grove, Calif. She also has 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Ephrata Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at the Valley View Memorial Park Cemetery in Soap Lake, WA; 20174 Road A NE.
