Nelson Cordill

A lifetime resident of Amber, Wash., Nelson Albert Cordill passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 28, 2011 at the age of 87 with his loving family at his side.

He was born Sept. 1, 1923 at Rodna, Wash., to Leonard C. Cordill and Ivy M. Sooy. He grew up on the family homestead with his brother, Clark, near Effie, Wash. Nelson attended school at Amber and graduated from Amber High School. He later met Mabel Heil and they were married on Nov. 18, 1944, and together they raised three children on the family homestead.

Nelson was active in his community serving on many boards and organizations such as Amber School Board, Cheney Grange Supply, Amber Grange, Masonic Lodge, longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the Washington State Cattleman's Association, where he served as their President in 1983.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel, of 58 years, his parents, Leonard and Ivy Cordill, and brother, Clark Cordill. He is survived by his three children: Kay Proff and husband, Mike, Ann O'Connor, Nelson Cordill Jr. and wife, Ronda; eight grandchildren: Brian, Kimberly, Suzanne, Kyle, Megan, Jonel, Craig and Lauren; seven great-grandchildren: Hailey, Riley, Anna, Abraham, Kale, Kelli and Addilynn; two stepgrandchildren: Michael and Vincent, and one stepgreat-grandchild, Ashlyn.

A memorial service to celebrate Nelson's life was held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cheney on April 1. Donations can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 911 W.
