Cheney, ML hold High School registration, orientation events

Freshman and new student orientations for Cheney and Medical Lake schools are coming up in the next few weeks.

At Cheney High School, an orientation will take place next Wednesday, Aug. 25 from 5p.m. to 7p.m. at the high school. Class schedules and orientation packets will be available as you enter the CHS Foyer.

While the orientation is not mandatory, it is “strongly recommended,” Jim Missel, assistant principal-activities and athletics, wrote in an e-mail.

“The orientation will help incoming freshmen, new students, and parents with the reduction of possible nightmares they will have the night before school starts,” he said.

The schedule of events begins at 5:15 p.m. with a welcome and an explanation about the orientation from Missel to incoming freshman and parents in Cheney High School Main Gym. Baylie Puyear, the 2010-11 ASB president, will lead in the pledge, offer some comments and introduce ASB officers.

Principal Tom Gresch is next on the agenda with his own welcome to new students, plus introduction of his administrative team, including freshman counselor John Michael and class advisors Bruce Abbott and Alison Phelps.

From 5:30 to 7 p.m., parents move to the cafeteria while students remain in the Little Theater. Afterwards, both groups will move around to various locations in the school where they will complete a variety of forms and registration items.

At Medical Lake High School, counselors will be in their offices today, Aug. 19, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to register new students. Schedule changes are possible starting Aug. 25.

The school is also holding a “Sneak Peak” Aug. 31 from 9 a.m. to lunch time. Students will get an orientation in the large gym, followed by tours by leadership students and a barbeque lunch outside.
