Storm roll toward softball title - Crunch Time

The Spokane Storm 14U fastpitch softball team ran its Spokane Girls Fastpitch Softball Association record to 9-1 this past week with two impressive wins over the Medical Lake Cardinals, 12-0 and 23-3.

With the wins the Storm moved to a one-game lead in league standings over the 9-3 Mt. Spokane Explosion who have completed play. The Storm can clinch first place with a win in one of their two games against the Lakeside Stars. The Storm have won four in a row in league play.

In the sweep over Medical Lake, the Storm got an impressive perfect game from pitcher Megan Fisher as she struck out nine. The second game saw Nicole Lane throw a two-hitter.

The doubleheader sweep saw Nora Ifft go 4 for 6 and knock in a pair of runs to lead batters from the West Plains. Nicole Lane and Nikki King were each 2 for 6 with three RBI's, while Sierra Vijarro had one hit in three plate appearances and an RBI.`

Last weekend at the Everett July Invitational Tournament, the Storm ran their overall record to 27-14-1 by finishing 2-1-1. The Storm tied their opener, 6-6, against the Bellevue Blast, beat the Lynnwood Blues 8-3 and Olympia Comets 5-2 before losing to the Rainier Jets, 4-3.

For the tournament, Lane led the team, going 7 for 12, a .583 average and three RBIs. King was 5 for 10 and also batted in three, while Ifft was 3 for 8 and two RBI's.

This Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the Storm play in the Northwest Regional Tournament at the Ramsey Rd. Softball Complex. Who they play will not be decided until the tournament draw which takes place at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
