Tom Webb has been promoted to associate head coach with the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team, as announced by head coach Wendy Schuller on July 25.
He has helped Schuller begin to turn the program around the past three years, as evidenced by two seasons with a winning percentage of .450 or better.
In the 16 seasons prior to his arrival at the Cheney school, the Eagles had done so just twice.
“The promotion to associate head coach is very well deserved for Tom,” Schuller said.
“He has been very passionate and is very loyal to Eastern women's basketball, to me and to our team. He works extremely hard, and he deserves it,” he added.
“Tom is passionate about the game, about teaching, about caring about people and helping our players grow into better people. He has a breadth of knowledge, understands basketball and does a great job with helping me and the rest of our staff teach our players not only to play the game, but to understand the game.”
Webb joined the Eagles in time for the 2004-05 season after an impressive four-year head coaching stint at Northwest College in Powell, Wyo.
The Trappers went 94-32 under his tutelage, posting the most wins in school history (26) in back-to-back seasons.
While at the school, Webb garnered two Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference (WCCAC) Coach of the Year awards, a pair of WCCAC championships and a 2003 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) academic championship. Over his career there, he coached two Kodak All-Americans, a pair of NJCAA All-Americans and a dozen Academic All-Americans.
Webb earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Southwest Minnesota State in 1998 before completing a master's degree in 1999 in teaching and learning at Northern State (S.D.).
