The Medical Lake Police Department is continuing its fundraising efforts in support of the Special Olympics of Washington this year, and is currently taking bids for two prize give-away drawings open to the general public with chances to win various prizes for the price of a donation.

Having reached the halfway point of the Special Olympics' fiscal year, fundraising started out with a bang with MLPD's hosting of the Polar Bear Plunge event in February, which was followed up with the department's participation in another benefit held in the Spokane Valley earlier in May.

MLPD administrative assistant Jennifer Willoughby is once again at the helm of the department's fundraising projects as chief organizer, and said so far they've surpassed all expectations in terms of support.

“We got an amazing response this year, and we're very happy about that,” Willoughby said of the businesses who donated the prizes featured in the raffle and silent auction. “Every single business, they donated all their prizes, right down to the tickets.”

The first prize-give away is a silent auction fundraiser for a Seattle Mariners package that includes the following prizes: Four tickets to see the Mariners play the Chicago White Sox on Saturday, Aug. 18, at 7:05 p.m.; a one night stay at the Silver Cloud Inn Lake Union Hotel in Seattle; and a large gift basket full of ball game snacks and goodies—a value totaling over $350.

Bids for the Mariners package will run from now until Monday, June 18, and close at 10 a.m.

Also going on right now is a department benefit raffle where individuals may purchase $1 tickets to go into a drawing for one of eight different, individualized prize packages ranging in value between $895 and $150.

Examples of the prizes featured in the raffle include the Unforgettable Romance package that includes the following: one night stay at The Davenport Hotel; dinner for two at Anthony's restaurant in Spokane; limousine services compliments of Blue Moon Limousine; two admissions to the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture; a 60-minute classic facial with coffee drink and truffles from the Brick House Massage & Coffee Bar; massages and a personal training session at Exercise Solutions; a haircut and style at 14th & Grand Salon; gift certificate to BlueFish Grill and Medical Lake Morning Brew and coupons for Luigi's Italian Restaurant.

There's also the Family Package that features a one night stay at the Spokane Hampton Inn, one day family passes for admission to Cat Tales Zoological Park (good for up to two adults and four children), admission tickets to the Raptor Reef Indoor Water Park and Nascart Indoor Speedway, Laser Quest, six “Night Out On The Town” gift cards, plus several local restaurant gift cards and coupons.

Other packages include the Experience Spokane package, West Plains Rendezvous package, Idaho Escape package, Weekend Excursion package, Seattle Getaway package and the Simplicity package.

Tickets are available for purchase at the station, and the official raffle drawing will be held on Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. at Medical Lake City Hall in the council chambers. The winner(s) need not be present to win.

Individuals interested in bidding on either of these raffles, or need more information are encouraged to contact Medical Lake Police Department at 565-5003 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
