    There are two reasons why the city of Cheney recently engaged in a reorganization of its police department. The first is to make sure as many officers are out on the streets engaged in patrol work as is possible.     At its June 8 work session, the Cheney School Board got a good look at its 2016-17 budget. Kassidy Probert, the district’s director of finance, said he budgeted for 4,360 full-time equivalent students, 37 more than last year. Probert said there have been spikes in enrollment in the last couple of years — 4,173 in 2014 and 4,323 in 2015 — which was due to the district implementing full-time kindergarten.     The Airway Heights Fire Department will soon be getting some new equipment. During the June 13 Airway Heights study session, Fire Chief Mitch Metzger informed City Council that the Fire Department was approved for a $171,715 Assistance to Firefighters grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency grant to purchase 26 full self-contained breathing apparatus.
