  • Errors all add up in Cards' softball losses

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Apr 26, 2018

An up and down offense and defense made for an up and down week for the Medical Lake softball team. When errors crept into the line score, so did the losses, 7-1 to Chewelah on April 17 and 10-2 to Colville. But when the defense did its job — and the offense, too — the Cardinals prevailed over Riverside 16-1. In the two losses, Medical Lake (3-5 NEA, 4-7 overall) committed five errors in each contest. “We were down 2-1 going into the sixth inning,” at Chewelah, head coach T...

Lynn Hickey will not be picking up stakes and moving back to Texas anytime soon. The current interim athletics director at Eastern Washington University had that title eliminated and will fill the position left by the resignation in January of Bill Chaves who accepted a similar job at the University of North Dakota. • Blackhawks sweep East Valley to stay in GNL playoff hunt

    John McCallum, Managing Editor|Updated Apr 26, 2018

Cheney High’s baseball team is hoping lightning really does strike twice in the same spot. Last year the Blackhawks swept Pullman in a season-ending doubleheader, wins that led to three more to win the District 7 title and trip to state. Cheney head coach Glenn Chamberlain doesn’t think his team is in that spot just yet, but with a sweep last Friday of East Valley, the Blackhawks are hoping they’re on their way to a repeat of last season’s ending — and possibly more. “The way it sits right now, we’ve got a chance to rea...

In fact the only time the Blackhawk boys didn’t finish...

  • Blackhawks win streak ends at EV

    John McCallum, Managing Editor|Updated Apr 26, 2018

Cheney softball head coach Gary Blake has an acronym for the ailment that sent his Lady Blackhawks to their first loss of the season last Friday at East Valley. It's called PIADD - Prom Induced Attention Deficit Disorder. The lack of focus in athletes due to the coming of the annual spring ritual often leads to stumbles by teams playing at the top of their game prior to the much-anticipated formal weekend event. Such was the case with the Lady Blackhawks, who had to rally...
