    It was a great balance of offense and defense, and usually when junior Bogdan Bliznyuk gets a double-double, the Eagles win. Bliznyuk finished with a game-high 25 points to go along with 13 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season as Eastern topped Idaho 77-67 in a Big Sky Conference men's basketball game at Reese Court before a season-best crowd of 2,821.     See a photo gallery from the event here. Medical Lake went on a 12-5 run over the game's final 3 minutes and earned a 62-51 win over Okanogan last Saturday afternoon. The win over the Caribou Trail League Bulldogs in Medical Lake means the Cardinals advance to the regional bracket in the state 1A basketball tournament Saturday at Cheney High versus Hoquiam at 4 p.m. Hoquiam plays in the Evergreen League and won the regular season title with a 7-1 record and are 14-7 overall....

    Thanks to a $14,000 grant from the Spokane-area Hagan Foundation, Windsor Elementary School students have 11 new xylophones on which to learn and perform. Besides class instruction, a group of fifth-graders have gotten together to form a marimba band under the direction of music teachers Sam Schlaich and Dorothy Thomas.     Cheney High gymnast Alexis Miller made the most of her second trip to the 1A/2A/3A state gymnastics championships at the Tacoma Exhibition Hall, Feb. 17. Miller finished 12th out of 96 athletes in the balance beam with a score of 8.875 points. To qualify for the finals, Miller posted a score of 9.050.     The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is offering its annual Spring Citizens Academy. This year’s academy will feature an all new class format, including some hands-on training scenarios.
