Eggers, Grossman join Women’s basketball

CHENEY — The season has begun for Eastern Washington women’s basketball, but the team continues to build for the future. Head Coach Joddie Gleason announced the signing of Jaecy Eggers and Kourtney Grossman on Nov. 7.

The two will suit up for Eastern for the 2024-25 season. 

“We are excited to welcome two new Eagles to the family,” head coach Joddie Gleason said. “Both Jaecy and Kourtney hail from winning programs, are competitive, and work extremely hard.”

Eggers arrives at Eastern after playing at Woodinville High for the past four years. She helped guide Woodinville to the 4A WIAA State Championship, along with earning the MVP of the State game and State tournament first team.

Grossman arrives in Cheney following a successful career at Billings West High in Montana. She also earned first team All-State honors in 2023 and led Billings West to the Montana AA State Championship.

Eagle cross country wrap up season

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Eastern Washington Cross Country wrapped up their season on Nov. 10 in Sacramento, finishing 26th (women) and 25th (men) at the NCAA Division I West Region Championships.

The Eagle women were five places behind conference rival Idaho (626; 22nd). Redshirt sophomore Lilly Fetzer was the top finisher for EWU, running 21:19.8 for 112th.

• 178: Ellie Linnenburger (22:15.7)

• 181: Jenni Bissell (22:17.6)

In the men’s 8K, Eastern finished with 630 points. Cam McChesney led the team for the first time this season, crossing 108th with a 31:25.00 time.

VOLLEYBALL:

Conference-leading Hornets top Eagles in four

CHENEY — A split in their two matches last week clinched a berth in the Big Sky Conference volleyball tournament for Eastern Washington.

The Eagles topped Northern Arizona, Nov. 9 at Reese Court, 3-0 before falling to defending conference champion Northern Colorado, Nov. 11 by a 3-1 score.

Sage Brustad was the team’s leading offensive option, finishing with 13 kills, while Bri Gunderson dropped in 10 as EWU qualified for the tournament for a fourth consecutive year.

Grad transfer, Kate Hatch posted 23 assists in the game and surpassed 2,000 for her career. Brustad also notched 15 digs in the game for her 13 double-double this season. 

Brustad, who had a game-high 13 kills, and Gunderson with 10 kills led the Eagles against Northern Colorado. Hatch recorded 14 assists and had 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. 

The Eagles are now 5-10 in conference play and 11-16 overall this season. They play the final regular season match before the Big Sky Tournament on Friday, Nov. 17 against Idaho, with first serve at 6 p.m. The game will be senior night and Eastern will honor Brustad pregame.
