State champion cross-country runner accepts place at Gonzaga

At just 18 years old, Logan Hofstee, a senior at East Valley High School, has already etched her name in the annals of Washington State cross-country history. She has also signed a letter of intent to run for Gonzaga University in Spokane.

Securing the state championship title for two consecutive years, Logan not only claimed victory but did so with a record-breaking performance, setting a new course standard at 17 minutes and 20.8 seconds.

Her exceptional talent recently earned her a spot on Gonzaga University’s cross-country team, a feat solidified with the signing of her letter of intent.

East Valley High School’s Athletics Director, Alec Vermaire, spoke about Hofstee’s impact on the cross-country team and the broader school community.

“She’s definitely been a team leader for us, particularly as the fastest girl in the state,” Vermaire said. “She congratulates teammates, cheers them on. She’s just a great kid, great student, a real positive kid to be around.”

While Hofstee might be known for her speed on the track, it is her role as an uplifting teammate that sets her apart according to Vermaire.

Despite her quiet demeanor, she has a profound impact on her fellow runners Vermaire noted.

“She’s uplifting, gets the girls pumped up to start the race together as a team,” said Vermaire. “She went out there at state and stayed to congratulate every one of her teammates. She’s quiet but leads by example.”

Logan’s achievements extend beyond athletics. Described as a solid and exemplary student, Vermaire expressed excitement about Hofstee’s future.

“Be true to yourself,” he advised. “She’s shown that she can be a competitive runner. She’s a solid kid, she’s a good student. I can’t wait to see what that is.”

As Hofstee prepares to embark on her collegiate journey with a cross country scholarship to Gonzaga University, the East Valley High School community reflects on the indelible mark she has left.

A beacon of leadership, positivity, and speed, Logan’s legacy is one that will undoubtedly inspire future generations of athletes at East Valley High School.
