Eagles fly over Lynden

Continue undefeated season

SPOKANE VALLEY – Nov. 11 brought a very windy Veteran's Day, and it also brought the second playoff shutout for the West Valley Eagles in the 2A state playoff tournament.

They beat the Lynden Lions 4-0 at Central Valley High School.

That brings West Valley to an undefeated 20-0 on the season. Their high-powered offense has tallied 114 goals for the team, while their stout defense has only allowed four goals against them.

West Valley was initially playing against the high winds that were seen throughout the Spokane area on Nov. 11, but that didn't slow them down much. It did create some complications with passing, but once the team figured out how to work with the wind they were going strong.

Lynden put the Eagle defense under some pressure early on, but they couldn't quite get the ball through.

They had a very close shot in the first half, but the West Valley goalkeeper was ready for everything the Lions brought.

The Eagles tallied four goals that came from Kyia Siilva, Jenna Howe, Lauren Matthew, and Daphne Van Wey. The team also put up four assists during the game as well.

Kyia Siilva, Claire Busse, Jenna Howe, and Ashlyn Chase are credited with those. However, the entire team played with a pass first mentality, keeping the ball moving and keeping the Lynden defense on their heels.

West Valley continues to work toward a state championship, which is their main goal for the year.

The Eagles will now go on to play the East Valley Red Devils out of Yakima.
