Domestic violence turns to homicide threat

SPOKANE VALLEY - Lani K. Havaas 45, was arrested, transported, and booked at the Spokane County Jail for felony harassment and threats to kill. Havaas is still in jail with a $5,000 bond set by Spokane County Superior Court Judge T. Fennessy.  

On November 3, 2023, roughly 9:35 pm, Deputies responded to a domestic violence with a weapon at 13500 block of E. sixth Ave. The caller reported a male suspect threatening to stab the victim and that the male had possession of knives. The victim had been pushed by the suspect and had a past of threatening to kill law enforcement.

Once Deputies arrived they became aware that the suspect was Lani. K Havaas. Havaas had left the location and in possession of multiple knives. Deputies had also claimed that Havaas was in possession of guns in the past.

The victim was in a relationship with Havaas and he began yelling at her saying “I’ll stab you and kill your family!!” following with “Try me; I have nothing to lose!!”

Witnesses reported hearing similar threats. Victim stated she believe he was capable of the threats and had a past threatening to kill people and law enforcement. Victim was aware of the weapons and was told previously that the firearm had “ One round in the chamber”

10:30 pm, Havaas was located at the apple way trail, east of S. Pines Road. Havaas was compliant and once detained Deputies found a pocketknife, three throwing knives, and a “realistic looking” BB gun.
