Blackhawks lose to Eisenhower

CHENEY — Once again, the start was promising for Cheney football, but the finish was much like it has been all season in a 24-7 non-league loss to Eisenhower on Oct. 27 at Tom Oswald Field.

Sam Coffin connected with Kordell Laher for a 20-yard touchdown play in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead.

But the Cadets (3-6) took command and led 14-7 at halftime before salting away the win with 10 fourth quarter points.

“The first quarter looked promising,” head coach Bobby Byrd wrote in an email. “But after that the offensive well ran dry.”

Cheney was held to just four first downs and 160 total yards, 125 via the arm of Coffin who also threw five interceptions.

“Another tough loss where both sides of the ball could not get on the same page,” Byrd said.

The Blackhawks have one more chance to earn their first win in 2023 when they host the Walla Walla Blue Devils (0-9).

Kickoff is 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2.
