County gives update on snow removal plan

SPOKANE VALLEY - County Commissioner Josh Kerns highlighted that the Public Works department maintains the largest county road system in the State of Washington. The county maintains over 5,100 lane miles of roads.

Public Works officials also announced the every grader in the fleet can be equipped with a snow gate/boot to clear curbed residential areas. These snow gates/boots were designed and manufactured in-house by public works employees.

The new snow gates/boots are more compatible with the current equipment, easier to install and cost thousands of dollars less than buying from a private company.

Their efforts have resulted in not only enhanced service, but also saved taxpayers an estimated $180,000.

Public Works is also about the begin the demolition of several buildings on property at Cedar and Sharp. The old, dilapidated buildings will be replaced by a new, 30,000 square foot Public Works Operations Building that will open in the spring of 2025.
