Fires in patrol status

CHENEY – Two area fires that drew a large fire response have been completely contained and downgraded to patrol status.

The West Anderson Fire started at approximately 5:00PM on August 2, and has now been fully contained according to the final update by the Department of Natural Resources.

The fire burned through brush, tall grass and timber for five days before being downgraded to patrol status.

The wildfire torched 47 acres total.

The Fish Lake/Columbia Plateau trail were completely reopened at 6:00 p.m. on Aug. 7.

The West Hallett Fire was another recent incident, and it burned 126 acres after the most recent assessment. The blaze is now 100 percent contained.

This fire started at approximately 1:30 p.m. on July 31 and quickly filled the sky with a tower of smoke. At one point there were over 200 ground personnel assigned to the fires, and air crews helped in the initial fire response.

According to the DNR people should still avoid going into the burn areas to avoid any trip or fall hazards.
