JV golfers finally get to compete

CHENEY – A season-worth of hard work and dedication by Cheney High School's junior varsity golfers was rewarded with their finally being able to compete.

The team played a 4-man, 9-hole scramble at The Plains on May 5.

Individual results were not available.

"I'm just proud of our JV group that worked on the range all season and finally got on the course to play a little," Coach Jeff Pike said. "I am very proud of their commitment and effort in trying to get better."

Cardinal soccer wins playoff opener

MEDICAL LAKE – Medical Lake boys soccer team has earned its way into the double-elimination bracket of the Northeast A League tournament with an 8-2 playoff victory May 4 over Newport.

Paced by the one-two scoring punch of Kaden Rudy and Mavrick Rasmussen, the Cardinals broke open a close match scoring six second-half goals en route to a 8-2 win.

Rudy scored four times and Rasmussen three while Sam Ornelas had one. Alex Grubaugh stopped 12 shots for Medical Lake.

The win was Medical Lake's fourth in a row and sixth out of their last seven.

The Cardinals were set to travel to Suncrest on May 9 to face NEA runner-up Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls).

Win and the Cardinals plays Thursday, May 11 against regular season champion Northwest Christian (Colbert) at 8 p.m. at Whitworth University.
