Churches

Cheney Congregational Church

Greetings from Cheney Congregational. We welcome you to join us on Sunday mornings for in-person worship at 10 a.m. Masks are required.

In July we are finishing a new sermon series, “Four Greek Words Every Christian Should Know.” Join us to see how learning the ancient Greek language can help illuminate scripture in fresh ways. At the end of July we will begin a series titled, “The Church and Mental Illness.” Kids have their own “Discovery Team Time” during our services with crafts and Bible lessons.  If you’d like to learn more or contact us, visit our website, http://www.cheneycongregational.org.

You’re invited to join us for our “Church in the Park” events on July 18 and Aug. 29. Partnering with a couple of other churches, we are holding our Sunday morning services outside in Sutton Park at 9:30 a.m. on those Sundays. We hope you’ll join us to learn about God’s creation while physically being in it. We hope to see you there!

Emmanuel Lutheran Church

Emmanuel Lutheran Church invites you to worship with us this Sunday, June 27, at 10:30 a.m.

Our weekly worship service is available on our website.

Mark your calendars and plan to attend the second or third multi-church outdoor worship services. Services will be held at Sutton Park beginning at 9:30 a.m. The dates are July 18, and Aug. 29.

Cheney Congregational, Emmanuel Lutheran, and St. Paul’s Episcopal churches will take turns leading the worship services. Questions regarding the services may be directed to: http://www.emmanuelcheney.org or pastor Matt Goodale at mattgoodale@gmail.com. Visitors are expected.

All are welcome to visit Emmanuel’s Little Free Library and Free Community Pantry located at 630 Elm St. Donations of books, nonperishable food, and personal care items for all ages are always accepted. All items are “take what you need, leave what you can.” Both are open to the community 24/7. Emmanuel thanks you for your continued support of this outreach to our neighbors.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

A welcoming haven, nourishing all God’s people in body, mind and spirit. Sunday morning prayer at 11 a.m. Because of the pandemic, the service will be an abbreviated version but include all the necessary prayers. All safety and sanitizing measures will be strictly observed, in particular wearing masks and keeping social distancing. All are welcome.

The memorial service in honor of our deceased priest, Rev. Christine Soule, is postponed, and will be rescheduled later, to be held at St. John’s Cathedral. We will keep you informed.

For your contemplation: “One morning, wake yourself up at three in the morning and pray to the Beloved. Open your heart to the agony of the world and listen to what comes to you. What is your heartbreak? What robs you of sleep? What makes you cry out to God in the middle of the night? What makes you yearn with your whole being to change? Find out, because if you do, you will find a source of inextinguishable flames and tears which will open your sacred heart. When your sacred heart is open, out of it will come a torrent of focused passion, which will give you the energy to go on and on, giving of yourself. So I don’t say follow your bliss; look where that has gotten us. I say follow your heartbreak.” Andrew Harvey
