Cheney School District again sponsors summer meals

CHENEY — The school district is again sponsoring the federal Simplified Summer Food Program for Children this summer. The program is designed to offer free meals for all children regardless of need in the area.

Meals will be made available to attending children ages one to 18 years of age. The program begins June 28 and runs through July 30 at the following sites:

Sunset Elementary School, 12824 W. 12th Ave., Airway Heights

Cheney Middle School, 740 S. Betz Road, Cheney

Westwood Middle School, 6120 S. Abbott Road, Cheney (Windsor area)

Cheney High School, 460 N. 6th St., Cheney

Meals are offered Monday – Friday, beginning with breakfast from 8:20 – 9:20 a.m. and culminating with lunch from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

The Simplified Summer Food Program is offered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Per federal civil rights laws, regulations and policies, “the USDA, its agencies, offices, employees and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA.”

Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication to receive program information should contact the state or local agency where they applied for benefits. Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at 800-877-8339. Program information may be available in languages other than English.

To file a program complaint of discrimination, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complain form (AD-3027) found online at http://www.ascr.usda.gov/complaint_filing_cust.html or at any USDA office. A letter addressed to USDA and providing all of the information requested in the form may also be submitted.
