CHENEY -- School district officials informed parents and staff that schools would remain closed today, Thursday, Jan. 14, as a result of damage sustained from yesterday's windstorm.

Three schools were still without power this morning -- Snowdown and Windsor elementary schools and Westwood Middle School. A number of families in the district remained without power as well, leading to officials to cancel both in-person and distance learning classes.

According to information from the Inland Light and Power outage map, a large section of 2,300 customers in the Hallett, Grove, and Thomas Mallen were without power after a main, three-phase power line was knocked down by the wind, with multiple downed trees also on the line. Crews were busy clearing the site and estimated restoration of power around noon today. A number of customers in Inland's service area in Spokane County such as Four Lakes and outside Cheney and Airway Heights were also without power.

School district officials are hopefully they will be able to resume classes on Friday, Jan. 15.
