Churches

Cheney Congregational Church

Please join us in worship this joyous Advent season. Joy is the word pastor Matt Goodale will examine this Sunday in his continuing series, “The Language of Advent,” its current daily use and its meanings in the Scriptures.

Children’s Church is available during services for those who would like to attend. There is also a children’s area in the sanctuary.

There will be a short congregational meeting after services. The ecumenical youth group will not be meeting this Sunday, Dec, 15.

This month instead of hosting a speaker, the “Things I Learned Somewhere” series will go caroling. Please join us for some old fashioned Christmas caroling Dec. 18, at 7 p.m. at the Cheney Care Center as we celebrate with the residents. Bring your family and friends.

Mark your calendars for 6 p.m. Dec. 24. We will be having our Christmas Eve Candlelight service.

We wish all of you a joyous Christmas season and look forward to seeing you.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church

Emmanuel Lutheran Church invites you to Thursday mid-week Advent soup supper and Holden Evening Prayer worship services on Dec. 12 and 19. Soup supper is served at noon followed by Holden Evening Prayer at 12:45. All are welcome.

Please plan to worship with us this Sunday, Dec. 15. Adult education meets at 9 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the upper kitchenette.

Mark your calendars and plan to worship with us on Christmas Eve at 7 p.m.

All are welcome to visit Emmanuel’s Little Free Library and Free Community Pantry located at 639 Elm St. Donations of books, non-perishable food and personal care items for all ages are always accepted. Both are open to the community 24/7. Emmanuel thanks you for your continued support of this outreach ministry to our neighbors in need.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

We are a welcoming haven, nourishing all God’s people in body, mind and spirit. Holy Eucharist is at 11 a.m. Rev. Jeff Neuberger will preach and preside.

Attention all college students. The Episcopal, Lutheran and Methodist Campus Ministry has begun again, meeting each Monday evening at 5 p.m. for dinner, study and worship. Please join us.

Fellowship breakfast is each Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. All are welcome.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. in the parish hall.

For your contemplation: “When we are truly in this interior simplicity our whole appearance is franker, more natural. This true simplicity...makes us conscious of a certain openness, gentleness, innocence, gaiety, and serenity, which is charming when we see it near to and continually, with pure eyes. O, how amiable this simplicity is! Who will give it to me? I leave all for this. It is the Pearl of the Gospel.” Francois Fenelon

United Methodist Church

Celebrate the Joy of the season on the third Sunday of Advent this week at the United Methodist Church. Pastor Alissa Bertsch will lead the service and preach from the books of Luke and Isaiah with the theme, “Heaven and Nature Sing.” The human advent candles are bringing Joy to all each Sunday.

The chancel choir will present a Christmas Cantata, “A Joy has Dawned, the Light has Come,” at the church on Sunday Dec. 15. The musical event will begin with carols played on the organ at 3:45 p.m. followed by the Cantata at 4. This event is free and open to the public and promises to be a delightful musical treat. No youth group that day because of the Cantata.

Looking ahead to Christmas Eve there will be two services from which to choose, 4:30 and 7 p.m. Both are family friendly and the later service will include Holy Communion.

Please call the church office for additional information on other worship and study opportunities.
