Cardinal volleyball drops two more

MEDICAL LAKE – The Medical Lake volleyball crew continues rebuilding efforts after losing two more matches during the past week. With only one win this season in a non-league game, and winless in the Northeast A League, they still have plenty of work to do.

The Cardinals took on Deer Park (2-4, 4-5) at home on Tuesday, Oct. 1, in NEA play, losing in three straight sets 25-14, 25-22 and 25-14.

They then hit the road to face the 2B Bi-County League Mary Walker Chargers (11-2-1) in Springdale, again losing in three straight sets 25-7, 25-22 and 25-13.

Despite their record, head coach Todd Harr remains optimistic about his team’s play.

“A couple of hard-fought matches where the team is starting to pass better,” Harr said. “The team is becoming more vocal and aiming to finish the season on a high note.”

He singled out sophomore Tyana Newman, brought up from junior varsity for her first varsity start, who had a “great match,” recording five kills and two blocks against the Chargers.

Ellie Haas also “stepped up big for the team” as a right side hitter, Harr said.

The Cardinals were scheduled to travel to Nine Mile to face top seed Lakeside (6-0, 9-1) on Tuesday, Oct. 8, then to Freeman to take on the Scotties (5-1, 6-2-1) today, Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m.
