Medical Lake Masons join with Cheney Temple

Early this year of 2019, the Cheney Masonic Lodge (Temple Lodge No. 42) was approached by members of the Medical Lake Masonic Lodge (Medical Lake Lodge 102) with a request to consolidate with Temple Lodge. Due to declining numbers in membership, members of Medical Lake Lodge believed it to be in the best interest of all membership to join with another local masonic lodge.

Members of Temple Lodge No. 42 and Medical Lake Lodge voted early this year to adopt a “Resolution of Consolidation.” After numerous meetings and with the approval of The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Fee and Accepted Masons of Washington, Medical Lake Lodge 102 was officially consolidated with Temple Lodge No. 42 on Aug. 1, 2019.

Twenty-six active Master Masons transferred to Temple Lodge Lodge No. 42 as part of the consolidation. The total membership currently for Temple Lodge no. 42 is 78 Master Masons. Medical Lake Lodge 102 was originally sponsored as a new lodge by Temple Lodge No. 42 and they received their official charter in June of 1895. Medical Lake Lodge has worked in the Medical Lake and local communities for 124 years.

The last lodge meeting hall was located at 620 North Stanley St. This building is owned by the Jensen Memorial Youth Ranch (JMYR), a local non-profit organization in the Medical Lake area. The JMYR was started by brothers Carl and Craig Grub (Both were members of Medical Lake Masonic Lodge and are now members of Temple Lodge) a little over 10 years ago.

It is a 110-acre ranch providing a place for 4-H and FFA youth members to keep their animals — steers, pigs, lambs and goats — at no charge to the students. Students must buy their animals, feed them and clean and maintain the pens. This program has helped teach participating youth valuable life lessons and helped instill responsibility and accountability.

During the lodge consolidation process, Masonic Temple Lodge No. 42 learned of the Jensen Memorial Youth Ranch program and efforts and deemed it a worthy program of masonic support and subsequently decided to make a donation to the JMYR. Board members of JMYR and participating youth were invited to attend the September monthly stated meeting of the Temple Lodge No. 42 where the Lodge presented those present with a donation of $1,000 to help support the youth ranch.

All of the youth present spoke of the positive influences the program has had on their lives so far. Carl and Craig Grub stated that participation in the JMYR continues to grow and both hope it will do so far into the future.

Cheney Masonic Temple Lodge No. 42 is honored to welcome the Brothers of Medical Lake Lodge 102 as members of Temple Lodge (Cheney). The Cheney Temple also hopes to work more with the Jensen Memorial Youth Ranch in the future.

The JMYR is located at 3312 S. Ritchey Road, Medical Lake. WA. Those wishing to get more information on the ranch may call 509-979-8876.
