Lansburgh takes home Lilac City Invitational title

Peter Lansburgh of Elk Grove, Calif. shot an 18 under par for the week at the 55th Lilac City Invitational to take the top spot on the leaderboard, the $10,000 purse and the Lilac City title at the Fairways Golf Course Sunday.

Play started out windy on day one Thursday, with Nampa, Idaho’s Steve Tarkon leading the way, shooting a seven under 65. Rathdrum’s Derek Bayley was close on his heels with a 66.

The low amateur lead was a three under 69 by Medical Lake’s Aaron Byrd.

The wind picked up and temperatures dropped on Friday as players struggled in tough conditions. North Idaho College head coach Russell Grove overtook Tarkon to take the lead on day two, shooting 68 for a nine stroke lead, followed closely by Bayley at eight under, while Byrd held onto his low am lead at three over.

But Saturday saw Lansburgh take the lead from Grove with 12 under after shooting a 66 for the day. But he didn’t have any breathing room with Jesse Schutte just one shot behind, and TK Kim and Steve Tarkon two strokes back. But it wasn’t enough to overtake Lansburgh on day four.

And at one over par, Byrd maintained his low amateur lead by four strokes going into the tournaments final day. By the end of play Sunday, he had held onto the top spot, shooting five over with Manito’s Jack Plaster one stroke behind to seal the win.

The tournament raised $9,000 for the Shriners Foundation, according to a Fairways Golf Course press release.
