After re-convening from executive session on litigation matters, the Cheney City Council unanimously approved a resolution to reach a settlement agreement with Thomas Myers pending the outcome of a case in the United States District Court of Appeals.

The annual Eastern Washington University Friends of the Library Walking Tour of the university’s historic campus promised to be a trip through history, architecture and personalities — with a tip of the hat to EWU’s historic mission of teacher training that year.

Locked in a pitchers’ duel in the bottom of the 10th inning with Riverside, Cheney’s AA American Legion team found a way to break the 2-2 tie and emerge with a 3-2, extra-inning win.

June 10, 1999

Mayors and police chiefs from Medical Lake and Airway Heights, along with representatives from Cheney and Eastern Washington University, met to discuss their short and long-term options for police dispatching.

A second Eastern Washington University student cooled his heels in a Spokane jail, charged with setting a fire that, despite its relatively small size, caused a fair amount of damage near a residence hall.

June 14, 1979

An audience of Cheney businessmen and residents, concerned about the annexation of 96 acres of land to the city’s southwest corner, heard of plans during a public hearing on the proposal for a new industry to locate on 14 acres of the site this year.

Dying garden and house plants as early as a year ago in the Airway Heights area was the first indication that something may be wrong with the local water supply, which led to a hearing over the continued use of the herbicide picoloran (tordon) to kill skeleton weed.

Wide receiver Sam McCullum, who played out his option with the Seahawks last season, agreed to terms with the club covering his services through the 1981 season.

June 12, 1969

Parents who were interested in a Montessori pre-school in Cheney in September were invited to attend an informational coffee hour.

Two members of the Eastern Washington Recreation Association swim team traveled to Missoula, Mont. to participate in a swim meet sponsored by the Missoula Aquatic Swim Club.

Three Cheney High School students were among more than 400 expected to attend Washington State University’s Cougar Cage camp that summer.
