Lilac City Invitational changes tournament dates

The 55th Lilac City Invitational golf tournament is changing dates this year, according to a press release.

“We are moving the dates from the first weekend following the 4th of July to June 6-9,” Fairways Golf Course General Manager Kris Kallem said. “We want to increase participation among local and Pacific Northwest Section PGA Professionals.”

Part of the underlying reason for the change is a conflict with the Professional Golf Association’s Rosauer’s Open that historically falls on the next weekend, according to Kallem.

“It was just challenging for many of our Section golf professionals to get both dates off,” Kallem said, noting the change will eliminate those conflicts and increase participation. “This will also lead to a deeper payout.”

The Lilac will be increasing it’s PGA Professional and Apprentice Sub-Purse as well, paying $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000 for first, second and third low PGA professionals who don’t cash higher in the regular field. “It’s sometimes tough for those of us who teach and work full time at a facility to compete with the mini-tour “wildcat” type pros who play and practice full time.” notes Fairways head professional, Dakota White. “This gives us a little extra cushion to know we can go out, play reasonably well, and still earn a decent check. The other pros should like because the more entries, the greater the overall purse.”

The Lilac is the region’s only 72-hole golf tournament that also hosts a strong amateur field with gross and net payouts for all amateur flights.

Net proceeds from the Lilac City Invitational go to support the Spokane Shriners Hospitals for Children.
