Cheney Community Church

Cheney Community Church is joining Resonate Church and the Cheney Church of the Nazarene this year for a combined Vacation Bible School (VBS). The VBS is scheduled July 16 – 20; however, there are some pre-events in the weeks running up to that date.

This coming Monday, June 18, there will be a free family barbecue at Centennial Park with food served at 6 p.m. The churches are providing the hamburgers, hot dogs, buns and utensils. Individuals are encouraged to bring drinks, sides or desserts to share. The neighborhood is invited to come learn about what the Vacation Bible School will offer. This year it will be a Mega Sports Camp with activities for ages first-grade through fifth-grade including volleyball, soccer, basketball, tennis and cheerleading. Please join us on June 18 to learn more.

The community is invited to join us for Sunday services at Cheney Community Church. Nursery and children’s church are provided. Bible classes for adults and teens are held at 9:45 a.m. Sunday morning, June 24, the vocal group “His Song from Spokane” will be featured in the main worship service. Our youth group meets every Monday at 6 p.m.

Cheney Congregational Church

Cheney Congregational always welcomes visitors to the Sunday services (at 423 N. Sixth Street) with coffee hour following. This Sunday, pastor David Krueger-Duncan will continue his series on how to read our Bible. Sermon six in the series will be “Thy Word: Finding Guidance For Our Lives In A Very Old Book.”

Feed Cheney is coming up on Monday, June 25 at 5:30 p.m. During the summer months, Feed Cheney is held at Veterans Park, just across the street from the Wren Pierson Building and the city fire station. It will be a brown bag supper and grocery distribution. All are welcome to attend, with no qualifying needed.

The vegetable garden boxes are planted, the vegetables are growing. We are looking forward to bringing fresh, healthy vegetables to the Cheney Food Bank this spring and summer.

For your contemplation: A Father’s Day Prayer: God help us to listen to our loved ones, play with our loved ones, laugh with our loved ones, weep with our loved ones, forgive our loved ones, take responsibility for our loved ones, be faithful to our loved ones forever. May we be a blessing to our families. Amen.

United Methodist Church

The “Birthday Bunch” from the United Methodist Church will head to Xanny’s on Williams Lake this Saturday, June 16. The no-host breakfast will begin at 9 a.m. and will recognize June birthdays.

Pastor Pat Sleeth will lead the worship service this Sunday while pastor Alissa Bertsch is in New York City with our amazing chancel choir singing at Carnegie Hall. Pastor Sleeth’s sermon topic is, “Always Wear Clean Underwear.” It certainly should be interesting. Sunday school classes are in recess for the summer.

Immediately after worship we will celebrate Father’s Day with “Pies for Guys” during fellowship time. Bring dad to church and stay for some yummy treats.

You may call the church office for additional information and study opportunities.
