Jostens, the leading producer of yearbooks and student created content, announced this month that Cheney High School's yearbook program has been named a 2018 Jostens' National Yearbook Program of Excellence for their 2018 publication, "Beneath the Surface."
The National Yearbook Program of Excellence recognizes engaging yearbooks that reflect a broad representation of the student body while helping students develop 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, and information and communication technologies (ICT) literacy.
The award-winning yearbook program is led by yearbook staff members under the direction of Leah Silvieus, CHS yearbook adviser. This year's publication was created by students including editor-in-chief Haley Pemberton, and staff members Shaun Allen, Abigail Blazon, Wyatt Boal, Katarina Cacikova, Alexander Clark, Shyla Courchaine, Dillon Dalton, Shelby Draper, Kyle Duncan, Isabel Duong, Alexis Ewen, Vanessa Flowers, Holly Flynn, Julliette Gaul, Kyliegh Giddens, Kelly Goforth, Olivia Grantier, Lindsay Hagreen, Donovan Hart, Niya Heiydt, Angel Imbrenda Mendoza, Caitlin Judd, Hannah Lemelin, Danielle Monzingo, Brennan Palmer, Keegan Paras, Max Pierson, Grace Sands and Richard VanNorman.
Jostens' National Yearbook Program of Excellence Awards are presented twice a year, in spring and in fall for yearbooks delivered during the school year. The award was presented to the Cheney High School yearbook program for achieving the defined criteria in each of three following categories: creating an inclusive yearbook, generating school engagement, and successfully managing the yearbook creation process.
"Jostens is proud to recognize those individuals who have acted as wonderful stewards by creating an exceptional yearbook for their school and community," Chuck Mooty, Jostens president and CEO, said in a May 25 news release. "Yearbooks are a critical part of telling a school's story, and Jostens is dedicated to supporting yearbook staff members with state-of-the-art tools and resources that help celebrate moments that matter."
The Cheney High School yearbook program will receive a gem-studded recognition pin and a banner to display in school, so the entire school community will be aware of the outstanding achievement.
If students, parents, staff or community members still wish to purchase a copy of "Beneath the Surface," Cheney High School's 2018 yearbook, they can purchase one for $65 from the CHS business office with cash or check. CHS currently has a limited supply of yearbooks remaining, which will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.
